Beyond climate solutionism: beyond the metrification of climate change

Key note speech Professor Mike Hulme, Nobel Conference 55, 2019:

As professor Mike Hulme has previously argued, “Rather than framing climate as an interconnected global physical system, or as a statistical artefact of weather measurement, climate needs to be equally understood as an idea that takes shape in cultures and can therefore be changed by cultures”.

In this illuminating speech, Hulme critically engages with the hegemony of science-only approaches, that are advanced not only in the natural sciences but by some strands of radical activism as well, and are in need of reflection from the humanities and social sciences.
