** Applications for Editor and Website Manager due March 24, 2025 **

Weather Matters is looking for a new student editor and website manager to join our editorial team! Spanning scholarly disciplines and institutional geographies, Weather Matters investigates the rich and entangled ways peoples across the globe give meaning to, foretell, intervene in, and adapt to climate change.

This is a great way to gain editorial experience and publication management skills, explore new research topics, and engage with a diverse community of scholars. Both positions are part-time, volunteer-based, and open to current graduate and research students. You do not need to be an Oxford student to apply; prior experience in either position is not required. See below for more details on each role and how to apply.

Details on Editor position:

  • Work with the editorial team to prepare for 1-2 thematic issues per year – these usually occur in the Fall/Winter or Spring/Summer.

  • If interested in leading an issue, co-write the Call for Papers with another leading editor (see our most recent ‘Unruly Ecologies' CFP) and co-manage check-in meetings, as necessary, throughout the editorial process

  • Review 3-4 incoming submissions for initial acceptance

  • Review, edit, and proofread 2-3 accepted submissions per issue.

    • Reading and editing submissions will occur across two months, which tends to be the most time and labor-intensive period. Each submission will be assigned two editors, who will jointly review the piece through two rounds of edits and one round of proofreading.

    • Depending on your own working habits and the type of submission, a single round of edits can take 2-4 hours per piece, which includes correspondence with the author(s), discussions with co-editors, and if needed, input from the larger editorial board

  • We have a flexible approach to sharing responsibilities among the editorial team; if a colleague will be on fieldwork or has other time constraints, they can step back for a period of time if needed.

Details on Website Manager position:

  • Manage and lead the transfer of Weather Matters data from Squarespace to WordPress – we are hoping to switch platforms for this upcoming Spring/Summer issue

    • It’s preferred but not required to have some familiarity and/or prior experience with WordPress

  • Set up and finalize the new Weather Matters site, with assistance from the outgoing website manager. The workload here will largely depend on your familiarity with the platform and your interest in design (you will have substantial creative freedom to organize and design the site should you desire to!)

    • WordPress has many pre-set designs and site templates, so prior coding experience is not required for the position

  • Upload edited submissions onto the Weather Matters site for final team and author review and finalize web publication

  • Manage correspondences with Oxford administrative staff regarding yearly web hosting and domain name payments
